About

Angie has had an unusually wide life. She completed her nursing degree and worked as a registered nurse in Switzerland for 6 years. She raised her three children in the United States, then spent six years in Geneva, where she learned french to surpport her kids through their primary school years. She has been settled in Leicester for the past eight years, working first as part of the team at the German Kindergarten run by the German Academy before moving into mainstream early years education. She now works as an early years educator at a Leicester nursery, and her registered childminding practice runs alongside that — offering home-based care for small groups of children from birth to five. Her nursing background gives her a calm, unhurried approach and a sharp eye for how a child is actually doing — not just what they're producing or performing. Strong English language development sits at the heart of her practice: rich vocabulary, lots of conversation, books chosen carefully for the quality of their text. French and German appear naturally in the day — in songs, greetings, and the odd moment of shared curiosity — but as additions, not the point.

A typical day

The morning begins quietly. Children arrive to a settled room and a choice of activities already set out — there is no rush to gather everyone at once. Mid-morning brings a short group moment: a story, songs, a simple shared activity and a craft. This is where Angie is most deliberate about language — rich English vocabulary, lots of repetition, plenty of open questions. Sometimes a word in French or German surfaces alongside the English, and the children find it interesting rather than confusing. Lunch is homemade and unhurried. Mealtimes are conversation time: naming things, describing, asking questions. Afternoons are calmer — rest for the youngest, longer imaginative play for the older children before families collect.

Bilingual approach

Angie's nursing training shapes everything. She pays close attention to how children are — not just what they're doing, but whether they're rested, comfortable, and settled. Before anything else, a child needs to feel safe and well. English language development is her first priority. A strong vocabulary in the early years is one of the clearest predictors of later school success, and she takes that seriously. Books, conversation, and rich descriptive talk run through the whole day. She keeps groups very small. With fewer children she can notice more, respond faster, and make sure each child is genuinely known — their interests, their rhythms, what unsettles them and what lights them up.

Combined sessions with Julia Sweeney

Angie and Julia are both part of the BILiNGUA partnership and regularly combine their sessions at one location. On combined days, both registered practitioners are present and Ofsted ratios are maintained across the group. Children benefit from a slightly larger social group, more language exposure, and greater flexibility for parents. Ask about which days are combined when you make your enquiry.
